October is a bit like a caffeine crash for me. September was an ice cap and my motivation and excitement of going back to school was at an all time high. Then October hits, and you're like: wait a minute...this is same old, same old!

I think, and I'm saying this from having had over 10 university exam periods under my belt, that midterms make or break grades. It is easy to be motivated at the beginning of courses and at the end, but October gets me everytime. There are so many other, much more fun, things to do in October than study. This year the list includes: Thanksgiving (x3), Vet conference, Hobbema Spay and Neuter Clinic, Halloween, Agility and working out. These distractions plus the fact that I'm fighting a cold make school a very big headache.

So here is my list of motivations: (My reasons for being at the library at 7pm on a monday).

- Half of getting good grades for me is developing good habits (start early kids!). Training myself that it's normal to always be studying will make it easier to do this for the whole semester.
- When you get good on midterms it makes you more motivated to get good marks on the next exam. Positive feedback cycles.
- If you work hard now, in your twenties, I have to believe that it'll pay off big time in the long term with job security, flexibility, lifestyle and maybe even a little cash.
- Good grades ultimately leads to a life of working with animals. Which is just so much better than anything else I can think of.
- This is my last chance to prove to myself that I can achieve that GPA I always thought I was capable of. If I can pull that off, it'll give me more reason to depend on myself later on in life with other challenges.

I'm also going to post my grades on here, not to brag or whine, but so that it helps me with accountability as well. You guys are another safety net. If I have to post grades on the internet for all to see, they might as well be good ones! So here goes:

People, pollution and the Environment midterm (worth 20%):
82% (I feel OK about that, my goal was 86, but this exam is worth the least out of all of them.)

Wednesday I have the first midterm in Environment Earth... I'll let you know!

(thanks for reading by the way, it's nice to know you're there, even if I don't know who you are. : )
